Overseas Chinese and foreign students are exempt from work permit requirements during a period of extended residence
Q1: After overseas Chinese and foreign students obtain an associate degree or higher in Taiwan and apply to the National Immigration Agency for an extension of their residency as newly graduated students, are they required to also apply for a work permit if they want to work in Taiwan?
A1: In accordance with the provisions of Article 12 of the Act for the Recruitment and Employment of Foreign Professionals, if a foreign national obtains an associate degree or higher qualification in Taiwan and in their capacity as a newly graduated student legally obtains an extension of their residency from the NIA, Ministry of the Interior, they do not have to apply for a work permit to work in Taiwan.
