- Applicants outside of Taiwan should submit their application to an ROC (Taiwan) overseas mission.
- Applicants who have already entered Taiwan visa-exempt or on a non-extendable visitor visa for other purposes (e.g., social visit, tourism, or business) may submit their application up to 10 working days before the current duration of their stay expires to the Bureau of Consular Affairs in Taipei or any of the Central, Southwestern, Southern, or Eastern Taiwan Offices of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Unsuccessful applicants must leave Taiwan before their duration of stay expires.

A person holding a Digital Nomad Visa (visa annotation code: DN) issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs or an overseas mission of the Republic of China (Taiwan), with a validity of six months, multiple entries, and a permitted stay of six months per entry, and without any annotation prohibiting extension or imposing other restrictions, may apply for an extension if there is a need to continue staying in Taiwan after entry.
The application must be submitted before the permitted stay expires, along with proof of a residential address in Taiwan, to the National Immigration Agency (NIA), Ministry of the Interior.
Each extension shall not exceed six months, the applicant is not required to leave Taiwan, and the maximum total duration of stay shall not exceed two years.
