Exemptions from the requirement to apply for a work permit
Q1: Under what conditions are foreign professionals, foreign specialist professionals and foreign senior professionals engaged in professional work in Taiwan exempted from having to apply for a permit?
A1: If a foreign national is “employed as an advisor or researcher by governments at all levels or their affiliated academic research institutions (organizations)” or is “employed by a public university or a registered private university to conduct lectures or academic research approved by the Ministry of Education,” there is no requirement to apply for a permit. In addition, foreign professionals, foreign specialist professionals and foreign senior professionals themselves, as well as their spouse, minor children, and adult children who are unable to live independently due to physical or mental disabilities, who have been granted permanent residence by the National Immigration Agency (NIA), Ministry of the Interior and working in Taiwan are not required to apply for a permit from the Ministry of Labor or the Ministry of Education.
